The number system (Type 1, 2, 3, or 4) is a general guide to describe how loose or tight your curl pattern is. With 1 being straight hair and 4 being Coily. It’s helpful, but it’s only one part of understanding your curls. You'll learn how to spot the pattern that most closely matches your strands in future videos.
-
A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy curls. We’ll guide you through identifying whether your scalp is oily, dry, or balanced and what that means for your routine.
-
Porosity tells you how well your hair absorbs moisture, while density reveals how much hair you have. Both help you pick the right products and techniques. Stay tuned for more videos helping you to identify your curly's porosity and density.

Whether you want to grow your hair, define your curls, or reduce frizz – your goals help determine the best routine and product combo for you.

To get the best results, always start with your shampoo to cleanse the scalp, follow up with conditioner to hydrate and detangle, and finish with your chosen styling products – whether that's a mousse, cream, or gel. This layering helps lock in moisture and shape your curl pattern.
-
Each styling product has a job! Mousse is perfect for light, bouncy hold, cream adds moisture for thicker or drier curls, and gel is ideal for maximum definition and frizz control. Mix and match based on your hair’s texture and the finish you want.
-
Healthy curls start at the scalp! Gently scrubbing with shampoo removes buildup without stripping, and conditioner helps soften and strengthen strands while reducing tangles. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to distribute evenly
-
Yes, especially if your curls feel dry or you use heat styling! A deep conditioning mask once a week helps replenish moisture, improve elasticity, and leave your curls shiny, soft, and resilient.

To get bouncy, frizz-free curls with a diffuser, always start with soaking wet hair styled using your chosen products. Use medium heat and medium airflow, and hover the diffuser over your curls or cup them gently, holding for a few seconds at a time. Avoid touching or shaking your hair while drying to maintain definition.
-
Flip your head upside down when drying, and use the diffuser to focus on the roots. Try lifting your hair at the scalp with your fingers or using root clips while drying. Once fully dry, gently shake or fluff your curls at the roots for that extra bounce without frizz.
-
You can refresh your curls by lightly misting them with water or using a curl-refreshing spray, then re-scrunching. If needed, reapply a small amount of mousse to redefine any flat or frizzy sections, then air-dry or diffuse on low heat.
-
Frizz can be reduced with hydrating products and gentle drying techniques like plopping or diffusing with minimal touching. For uneven curl patterns, use styling methods like finger coiling or twist-outs on the less defined areas to help reshape and even out your curl pattern over time.
